The players auction for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to be held on December 19 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. This is the first time in history that the IPL auction is taking place outside of India.
All ten teams have already made some modifications to their rosters through trading and retention. The franchises will look to fill the vacant slots at the upcoming auction to prepare a balanced squad that they hope will win them the IPL trophy.

According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), a total of 1,166 players initially registered for the mini-auction. Among them, the teams have shortlisted 333 names, comprising 214 Indians and 119 overseas players, who will go under the hammer on the auction day.

After all the trading and retention are done, a total of 77 slots across the ten franchises are yet to be filled. Among the vacant slots, up to 30 can be filled by foreign players.
Gujarat Titans have the maximum value left in their purse. The runners-up of the last edition need to fill eight slots including two overseas players with an amount of Rs 38.15 crore. Lucknow Super Giants will feature at the 2024 auction with the smallest purse, having Rs 13.15 crore left.
The KL Rahul-led franchise though has six slots to fill of which two can be overseas players.
As many as 23 players including the likes of Travis Head, Mitchell Starc, Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav among others have set their base price at Rs 2 crore, while 13 players will feature at the mini-auction with a starting value of Rs 1.5 crore.
All the players have been divided into 19 sets according to their specialisations – batters, fast bowlers, spinners, wicketkeepers and allrounders.
Though the trading window has been closed as of now, teams will be able to exchange players from December 20 for up to a month before the 2024 IPL commences.

The eagerly anticipated event will be televised on the Star Sports Network at 1 PM IST on December 19 (Tuesday). The live streaming of the same will be available on the JioCinema app and website in India.
