ICC T20I Rankings: Ravi Bishnoi Pips Rashid Khan to Claim Top Spot in Bowling Charts
Ravi Bishnoi has been a consistent performer for India since his debut last year against West India in February.

Team India’s young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi achieved the top spot in the latest ICC T20I bowling rankings. Bishnoi, who was the standout bowler in the recently concluded T20I series against Australia, pipped Rashid Khan to claim the top spot in the rankings. He picked 9 wickets in 5 matches and was also named Player of the Series.

The 23-year-old has been a consistent performer for India since his debut last year against West India in February. He has picked up a total of 34 wickets from 21 T20Is.

With only six T20Is remaining for India ahead of the showpiece, it can be assumed that the 23-year-old leg-spinner has moved ahead of veteran Yuzvendra Chahal in the pecking order, for now at least. Chahal is not a part of India’s T20I side to face the Proteas.

Chahal is 33 and Bishnoi is 23, but the latter getting as much or more game time in T20Is is not just about a natural generational transition.

Bishnoi, who is on 699 rating points, has jumped five places to displace Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan (692) from the top slot.

Meanwhile, the top-five spots in the bowling charts are acquired by the spinners in the shortest format.

Rashid Khan (second), Adil Rashid (equal third), Wanindu Hasaranga (equal third) and Maheesh Theekshana (fifth) all drop one spot inside the top 10, while India spinner Axar Patel rises 16 places to 11th.

In the batting charts, Yashasvi Jaiswal gained 16th place to be placed at the 19th spot, while Australia’s opener Travis Head improved 16 places to 29th.

Suryakumar Yadav continues to hold the numero uno spot in the T20I batting charts.

There was also some movement on the latest Test rankings after the completion of the opening Test between Bangladesh and New Zealand, with Kiwi Daryl Mitchell rising one place to seventh inside the top on the list for batters after scores of 41 and 58 in Sylhet.

Kane Williamson remains the top-ranked Test batter, while Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto jumps 13 places to 42nd after his superb century in the second innings against the Black Caps.

The top 10 for Test bowlers remains unchanged behind first-placed Ashwin, although towering New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson re-enters the rankings at No.13 following his return to red-ball cricket and Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam jumps four places to a career-best 14th after his 10-wicket haul and Player of the Match heroics against the Kiwis.

Taijul’s total of 708 rating points is the highest ever by a Bangladesh bowler, surpassing Shakib Al Hasan’s 705 achieved in August 2017.
