In 2023 India’s primary focus was on the 50-over format because of the ODI World Cup which took place in October-November. Test format was also a priority in the first half of the year with the World Test Championship Final placed on the line. Amidst all that, it was the T20 format which took the backseat as several senior stars decided to give it a miss on several occasions to manage their workload. The All India Selection Committee also decided to give chances to young talents with an eye on the future.
It was the T20 format where the majority of young players made their international debut, meanwhile, some consistent performers from domestic cricket also got the chance to represent India in the red-ball cricket.
With the return of cricket in the Asian Games, the BCCI decided to send a young team to China as the senior stars were busy preparing for the ODI World Cup at that time. Ruturaj Gaikwad led the side as several players got the chance to make their debuts.
