Australia's Deakin University and Wollongong University to Set Up Campuses in India

Union Minister for Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan along with Minister for Education, Government of Australia, Jason Clare has announced the opening of Deakin University and the University of Wollongong campuses in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Taking to microblogging site X (former Twitter), education minister Pradhan said that the setting up of the campuses of Australian Universities is “Bringing world-class learning opportunities at Bharat’s doorstep.” He further added, “A vibrant campus of these two universities in Gujarat—the land of opportunities, is a GIFT to our student community. I congratulate them on this momentous occasion. Gratitude to PM Narendra Modi for his vision and efforts to transform India’s education through the NEP.”

“Campuses of Australian University in India is just a beginning. As we embark on a new era of global education in India, we remain committed towards a more brighter and enlightened tomorrow for our #AmritPeedhi as well as towards a future where the boundaries of quality education knows no limits,” he added.

The two ministers recently visited Gandhinagar to check the upcoming campus of Wollongong and Deakin Universities. Both the Ministers also planted saplings to symbolise a new beginning, the education ministry stated. The ministers were also briefed on the developments of the campus and future plans. The education ministry further added that the collaboration is in line with NEP’s vision of internationalisation of education.

IIT Gandhinagar has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Deakin University for academic and research collaboration. It aims to facilitate student, and faculty exchange between both institutions for research, and teaching, reported Indian Express. A total of six MoUs were signed on Monday between Flinders University, Griffith University, James Cook University, La Trobe University, University of Canberra, and Western Sydney University with Indian universities for collaborative work and to help Indian students gain access to Australian higher education.
