4 Underrated iOS 17 Features: Better DualSIM Experience, Voice Cloning And More
With iOS 17, Apple has brought a slew of changes but many of them have gone unnoticed. Here, let us check these features and see how useful they are.

iOS 17, after being announced at the WWDC 2023 keynote, is finally out for compatible iPhones now. It includes a slew of new features, building on the overhaul that Apple brought with iOS 16. While the UI hasn’t changed much, new features like StandBy, better Siri, Contact Posters, and NameDrop promise a better overall experience with a focus on quality-of-life improvements. However, some features have gone unnoticed, and could prove to be quite useful.

So, if you’ve already updated to iOS 17 and want to check out the new features, or if you want to learn more about the features before updating, read on for the details. Notably, iOS 17 is compatible with all iPhones released after the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus—basically, all iPhones released in 2018 or later.

Underrated New iOS 17 Features:

Better DualSIM Experience

While there is a lot of buzz about other popular features like NameDrop, features like the better DualSIM experience have gone unnoticed, and especially in India’s context, this plays a major role. iOS 17 users will now have the convenience of organizing their messages based on their primary and secondary SIM cards—a feature that can be indispensable who juggle work and personal affairs with separate SIMs. Apple has also provided users with the option to set different ringtones for each SIM, which is useful for both personal and work scenarios.

Voice Cloning

iPhone users gain access to a new feature that enables voice cloning directly on their devices. This feature is primarily aimed at individuals who may face the risk of losing their ability to speak. To use this feature, users can go to ‘Accessibility’ settings and find the ‘Personal Voice’ option. Here, they can record their voice in a natural tone, holding their iPhone at a distance of 5 to 6 inches from their face. Apple’s software processes these voice models and subsequently presents users with a cloned version of their voice. This cloned voice can then be used in some native apps like FaceTime.

FaceTime Gets Due Attention

Speaking of FaceTime, another part of the iOS experience that’s getting some attention is FaceTime. It’s not only one of the most used iPhone features, but people also use it for work. Now, to address that, users can leave a message when someone doesn’t answer a call, silence unknown callers, and even play video messages on their Apple Watch.

Bilingual Siri

Siri has been around since the iPhone 4S came out in 2011, and it’s gotten a lot better since then. But it’s always been a little lacking in one area—being bilingual. Now, though, Siri can understand and respond to both English and Hindi at the same time. And it can even mix and match other Indian languages like Telugu or Marathi with English.
