The Indian Cricket Team has had many star duos throughout its history. From the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly to Sachin and Virendra Sehwag to Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, the common thread between them is that they were all iconic opening pairs. But one of the most celebrated and beloved duos of Indian cricket is that of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. The two giants of the game have had some of the best partnerships and have won matches for India. Virat Kohli debuted under MSD’s captaincy and has always idolised Dhoni.
On this day, MS Dhoni led the Indian team for the first time, he led a young-look Men in Blue to a historic T20 World Cup title in 2007.
Recently, a thread went viral on X (formerly Twitter) wherein a fan started a trend of posting tweets from Virat Kohli about MS Dhoni. The run machine has always been the first one to support MSD and he showed it in one of his tweets when Dhoni showed signs of his vintage self. In Qualifier 1 of the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League, Dhoni turned back the clock and finished the match scoring 18 runs off 6 balls. Kohli tweeted, “And the King is back. The greatest finisher ever in the game. Made me jump out of my seat once again tonight.” He was just a fan of Dhoni at that moment and was thrilled to see Thala doing it again.

Kohli and Dhoni have together saved several matches for the country and shared some of the most iconic moments. Whether it was MSD defending a ball for Virat to hit the match-winning shot or their insane running between the wickets that cannot be replicated. On August 10, captain cool announced his retirement through a video on his social media account. Virat tweeted out a video of some of the best moments along with a message thanking the former Indian captain for all those moments. Virat wrote, “Thank you for these moments skip. I couldn’t explain the mutual trust, respect and understanding we share better than these two videos I’m posting here today.”

MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are two of the fastest runners between the wickets the world has ever seen and that was showcased the best in their Super 10 match against Australia in the 2016 T20I World Cup. Virat remembered the epic match and tweeted, “A game I can never forget. Special night. This man, made me run like in a fitness test.” Virat and Dhoni completed an iconic chase with Virat scoring 82 off 51 balls and taking India to a great victory.
