When Raj Kundra Called Himself 'Unaffordable': 'I Bet Salman Khan Doesn't Earn That Much'
Raj Kundra said that he makes more money than Salman Khan. This greatly upset the superstar's fan base.

Shilpa Shetty’s husband, businessman Raj Kundra was sentenced to jail for two months in 2021 in connection with a pornography case. Now, Raj has turned that incident in his life into a movie in which he will be playing himself. However, in an earlier statement, Raj had said that he did not want to venture into acting since he is “unaffordable”. Raj also said that he makes more money than superstar Salman Khan.

During a press conference for a gold firm nearly 10 years ago, Raj said, “I can bet Salman doesn’t earn that much… well, at least nowhere near me. I am in for making films only because my wife has been part of this industry.” He added that he doesn’t think that it’s fun to be like Salman and felt that there is a lot at stake for actors in Bollywood. “Ask him (Salman) probably he can tell you better. But I am not wrong in terms of calculations.”

This statement had resulted in an uproar from Salman’s fans who were quite angry with Raj. This led to Raj having to issue a public apology statement. In his statement, he said, “During a recent press conference for Satyug Gold, I was posed with the question of whether I would consider acting. I replied with an honest reply stating, “Firstly, who would watch me? Secondly, as a businessman, I would be unaffordable.”

Raj added, “I further went on to say, ‘Forget me I am a small fish but one can compare the top 10 industrialist earnings to the top 10 actors in Bollywood and whilst one gives you more fame the other certainly pays much better. So, obviously, no producer would overpay to get a bad non-actor when he can sign a superstar for cheaper.”

“My statements were then misquoted out of context, causing a lot of furore from Salman Khan fans. My wife and her family share a very good rapport with the Khan family and I thereby have never meant any ill towards anyone,” he added.

Raj’s film UT69 will be released in cinemas on November 3, 2023.
