What Actor Mark Ruffalo Has To Say About His Fourth Oscar Nomination
Mark Ruffalo has been nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Award for his last release, Poor Things at the Oscars 2024.

As the final nominations for the 96th Academy Awards are unveiled, a myriad of exceptional films, standout performances, and remarkable directorial achievements eagerly await the prospect of clinching an Oscar. Notably, several 2023 blockbusters, including Oppenheimer, Barbie, Poor Things, Killers of the Flower Moon, The Holdovers, American Fiction, Maestro, Past Lives, Anatomy of a Fall, and The Zone of Interest, stand out with significant nominations. Oppenheimer leads the pack with an impressive 13 nominations, closely followed by Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things with 11 nominations.

Already a favourite, taking home both the Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award and also the Golden Lion, the Emma Stone starrer is once again looking forward to marking a win at the Oscars 2024. Besides competing for the Best Picture and Best Actress Awards for Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone, respectively, the film is also eyeing the Best Supporting Actor Award for Mark Ruffalo.

Best known for playing Bruce Banner, aka Hulk, in the MCU films, Mark Ruffalo has bagged his fourth Best Supporting Actor nomination for Poor Things. Earlier, he was nominated at the Oscars for films like The Kids Are All Right, Foxcatcher, and Spotlight.

This time, he has been pitted against actors like Robert Downey Jr. (Oppenheimer), Sterling K. Brown (American Fiction), Ryan Gosling (Barbie), and Robert De Niro (Killers of the Flower Moon). Reacting to the nomination at the prestigious award ceremony, Ruffalo took to his social media handle and expressed his gratitude.

Sharing a couple of BTS pictures from the Poor Things sets, Ruffalo thanked his director, the audience, and the entire team. “I have the unbelievable privilege of making movies as a job. To be recognized by The Academy among the best is an honor that exceeds all ones expectations as an actor. Thank you to our brilliant filmmaker, Yorgos. And thank you to the audiences who gave this film a chance. Congratulations to my Poor Things family for all the love. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” he wrote.

Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, Poor Things is based on Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel of the same name. Featuring Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, and Jerrod Carmichael in prominent roles, the film revolves around a young Victorian woman who is resurrected by a mad scientist who replaces her brain with an infant’s.
