India’s brave soldier who sacrificed his life for the country, late Captain Vikram Batra would have turned 49 years old on Saturday. Actor Sidharth Malhotra, who essayed Vikram’s role in the National Award-winning film Shershaah, recently took to the micro-blogging site X, formerly known as Twitter, to remember the inspiring man.
Sidharth posted, “Remembering the real life Shershaah, Captain Vikram Batra, on his 49th birth anniversary today. His bravery and sacrifice continue to inspire us all.” The actor brought the late Captain’s story to life on screen in the 2021 biographical film Shershaah.

Directed by Vishnuvardhan, the film traced Vikram’s journey from a happy-go-lucky boy-next-door trying to win over his lady love to becoming one of the most decorated soldiers in the Indian Army and getting martyred in the Kargil War.
Besides his career as a soldier, the narrative also delved into Vikram’s personal life, especially his romance with Dimple Cheema. Dimple’s character was played by Kiara Advani in the film. Much like the on-screen couple, Sidharth and Kiara also fell in love after working on the film.
The Dharma Productions’ film bagged many awards after its release, the latest being the Special Jury Award at the 69th National Film Awards. The award was announced in August this year.
In an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, Vishal Batra, Vikram’s brother, shared, “It is a matter of great pride and happiness because this award is not only for the movie but it is also for the valour and the courage of every soldier who gave their lives in the Kargil war.”
“While Vikram has become a legend, it is the sacrifice of the 527 soldiers who have been the unsung heroes,” Vishal added.
