When Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan hit theatres in September, it left everyone completel impressed. Besides SRK’s chemistry with Nayanthara, his love-filled scenes with Deepika Padukone in the movie were also widely loved by all. However, do you know King Khan had personally approached Deepika for an extended cameo in this movie?
In a recent interview with Filmfare, Jawan director Atlee revealed the same and said, “I asked Pooja (Dadlani, SRK’s manager), ‘Can we approach Deepika for Aishwarya’s character?’ She said, ‘Yeah, let’s speak to Shah’. Then Shah Rukh sir said, ‘I’ve already spoken to her; she’s interested. She will do it, let her get free. Then we’ll go and narrate; if she feels merit, she will definitely do it.'”
Following this, Atlee flew down to Hyderabad where Deepika was alrady shooting for her upcoming movie Kalki 2898 AD. However, at first, the actress refused to listen to the narration and obliged that there was no need for it. “Her reaction was, “Why do you have to narrate? You don’t have to narrate it to me. I’m coming.” I told her, “No, ma’am. It is not a small character. It is the central pillar of the film and you have to know before you’re doing it.” But she said, “No, no, I will do it”,” Atlee recalled.
“Nevertheless, she heard it. After hearing it, she said, “Oh, This is a very solid character. Oh my God.” With respect, love and in the most positive way, she came on board and I really had a fun and inspiring time working with Deepika. She’s something else,” the director added.
Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone share a great bond. The actress made her Bollywood debut in 2006 with Om Shanti Om in which she played dual roles opposite SRK. Since then, the two have worked in several films together including Pathaan, Chennai Express and Happy New Year.
