At least two people, including a minor, were killed while several others sustained burn injuries on Monday after a massive fire broke out in a nine-storey residential building in Mumbai’s Borivali. The fire was brought under control with the help of 8 firefighters soon after it was reported.

According to the news agency PTI, the fire erupted at 12:30 pm in one of the apartments on the first floor of the Pavan Dham Veena Santur Building of Mahaveer Nagar in Borivali and soon spread to the electric wiring and installations on that floor.

“All the concerned agencies, including Adani Power, police, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) ward and the 108 ambulance service have been mobilised,” an official told PTI.

“After the fire broke out on the first floor, smoke spread up to six to seven floors, due to which a lot of damage occurred in the building. The police and fire brigade are investigating how the fire broke out. We are continuously in contact with them,” BJP MLA Sunil Rane said.

The deceased have been identified as 43-year-old Glory Walphati and 8-year-old Josu Gems Robert.
