Saif Ali Khan is one of the best-known figures in the Bollywood industry. In the 32 years of his career, Saif has worked on more than 70 films and many web series. He struggled to find his place in the industry in his early career in the 1990s. But today, he tops the list of Bollywood’s biggest heroes.
One particular incident from his early days that still follows him is the double meaning Rat Song. This song is from the 1994 film Yaar Gaddar, starring Saif Ali Khan, Somy Ali and Mithun Chakraborty.
Saif, who danced to the song in the film, revealed on Koffee with Karan in 2018 that the song has given him sleepless nights. Even today, people tease him about this song. Actor Ranveer Singh still teases him about this song, as per reports. The song features Saif and Somy Ali and involves a powerful dance sequence with Saif wearing a fake belly.
Despite featuring Saif Ali Khan and Mithun Chakraborty, the film Yaar Gaddar failed at the box office. The film earned Rs 4 crore worldwide against a budget of Rs 2.10 crore. The film was directed by Umesh Mehra, while the songs were composed by Anu Malik.
This was the sixth film of Saif Ali Khan’s career who started his career in 1993 with the film Parampara. He soon achieved stardom with films like Aashiq Awara, Pehchaan, Imtihan, Yeh Dillagi and Main Khiladi Tu Anari.
Talking about the Rat Song on the stage of Koffee with Karan, he said, “It’s called Yaar Gaddar. It went ‘mera chuha kaatega, kahaan hai teri billi (My rat is ready to bite, where is your cat)? These double-meaning songs, man. Back in the day.”
In 2017, during a song launch event, Saif also spoke about the song, saying, “There was some song that I did called the Rat Song. I was playing a dance choreographer and dressed as the dance choreographer. A young guy dressed like this slightly fatter, older guy. I am teaching [an actress] various songs.”
Saif Ali Khan was last seen in Adipurush and he will next be seen in Jr NTR-starrer Devara.
