When Rekha Addressed 'Sex Maniac' Tag, Said She Is 'Badnaam Actress': 'Sheer Fluke I Didn't Get Pregnant...'

Veteran actress Rekha has never been one to mince her words. However, her candour about ‘taboo’ topics like pre-marital sex and gender equality in marriage have often led to backlash. The actress was once labelled a ‘sex maniac’ after she was linked with actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra and Vinod Mehra. She addressed this label in her biography and said that she was a ‘badnaam’ actress.

Addressing these alleged affairs, the actress’ biography, ‘Rekha: The Untold Story’, reads, “It is sheer fluke that I have never got pregnant so far. I’m not just an actress, I’m a ‘badnaam’ actress with a rotten past and a reputation for being a sex maniac.”

In an interview with a magazine, she had expressed her honest opinion about pre-marital sex. “It’s very natural. And all those prudes who say that a single woman should have sex only on her suhaag raat are talking bull! Sex goes with love. You can’t come close, really close, to a man without making love. And that’s the only time when a man and a woman are their most natural self when they are in their birthday suit,” Rekha had said.

Rekha’s thought process was way ahead of her time. She even thought it was okay for her to marry a woman, way back when queer rights were not talked about. In an old interview with Simi Garewal, she also talked about binge drinking, drugs and lust.

Simi Garewal asked the veteran actress, “How come one has never heard of Rekha’s binge drinking or Rekha’s drug use? You just kept it very clean, eh?” To Simi Garewal’s question, Rekha replied, “Of course I binge drink. Of course, I did drugs. I was very impure. I was lustful as hell. Ask me with what? With life. Got you!”

In the same interview, the veteran actress also opened up about her alleged relationship with Amitabh Bachchan and said, “I have not met a single man, woman, child who has not fallen completely, passionately, madly, desperately and hopelessly in love with him. So why should I be singled out? What am I to deny? I am not in love with him? Yes, of course, I am. Duniya bhar ka love aap le lijiyega and a little more – I feel that for that person. Bottomline.”

There is no denying that Rekha’s charm works every time she appears at a public event or media meeting.
