A movie almost six decades old, the classic Arzoo starring Rajendra Kumar, Feroz Khan and Sadhana has interesting trivia that still makes headlines. The film, which was directed by Ramanand Sagar, was released in 1965, and was a big blockbuster, turning out to be the fourth highest-grosser film of that year. Arzoo’s plot revolved around a love triangle, which was typical in movies of that era.
While Rajendra Kumar had a meatier role, Feroz Khan was the second lead in the movie. There is an interesting incident from the backdrop of the movie. It is said that when Rajendra Kumar’s stardom was shining at its peak, he had become very choosy. He made some of the crucial choices in taking film at his convenience. He also began to choose his co-stars and other crew as per his choices.
According to an IMDb report, Rajendra Kumar had chosen Feroz Khan as the second lead actor in Arzoo. He wanted to do this film with Feroz Khan only. However, Ramanand Sagar did not like him at all, as per reports. He objected to Rajendra Kumar’s decision and asked him not to cast Feroz Khan in Arzoo.
According to News18, Rajendra Kumar offered Rs 45,000 as fees to Feroz Khan for becoming the second lead actor in the film. After signing him in the film, when Rajendra Kumar called Ramanand Sagar, the actor told him that he had found another hero and he had signed him. When Ramanand Sagar asked Rajendra Kumar who he was, the actor informed me that it was Feroz Khan.
After hearing the name, there was silence from Ramanand Sagar’s side as he was not happy with the choice. Ramanand Sagar told Rajendra that Feroz Khan is new and raw to be cast. Ramanand Sagar had opposed Feroz Khan’s presence in the film.
As per reports, Ramanand Sagar had not seen any of Feroz Khan’s films and he did not know whether he would fit into the character or not. Apart from this, Feroz Khan was also tagged as a ‘B’ grade actor back then for his previous work. After the movie Arzoo was released, Feroz Khan was finally noticed.
