There is hardly any cinema enthusiast alive who has not watched James Cameron’s movie Titanic. Based on the true incident of the sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912, the movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in the lead roles. Out of almost 2,224 passengers onboard, 1,500 people died in this accident. It became the first movie to touch a billion-dollar mark in the entertainment industry and was the highest-grossing movie for several years before it was crossed by James Cameron’s Avatar in 2010.
The climax scene of the movie was heartbreaking for many after Leonardo DiCaprio dies in an attempt to save her love partner Kate Winslet in the movie. In a bid to produce realism in the movie, do you know that the actress caught pneumonia while filming the climax scene of the movie?
There are various behind-the-curtain stories of the movie Titanic which often make rounds on social media. The climax of the movie was not shot at the real location but was created in a studio. To make it look real, the makers fetched the water from the Pacific Ocean and poured it into the set. The actors had to spend most of their time in the ice water that froze the body. The producers always kept a ‘hot tub’ of cold and hot water ready for the actors on set.
The climax scenes were shot entirely in water. The artists were supposed to be present in the chilly water. Wetsuits were given to the party performers to protect them from the cold water. While everyone was acting in that wetsuit, Kate refused this proposal. To produce authenticity in the scene, the actress decided to not wear the wetsuit as she believed that it would hinder her expression and the authenticity might decrease. Kate acted all the scenes without putting on the ‘wetsuit’. She eventually caught pneumonia as a result.
James Cameron is famous for his movies like The Terminator, Aliens, True Lies, Avatar and Titanic. His last movie was Avatar: The Way Of Water. It starred Kate Winslet in the prominent role.
