Sophia Paul, the producer of Malayalam superhit RDX has filed a case against director Nahas Hidhayath for breach of contract. She is demanding compensation of Rs 1 crore from Nahas for not making a second film for the company. RDX which was released in 2023, became one of the most critically acclaimed films across India.
In the suit, the production company stated that Nahas Hidhayath had received an advance of Rs 40 lakh for directing his second film for them. However, he did not follow the contract. While Sophia Paul made serious allegations against Nahas, the latter claimed that he had not signed any contract except for RDX. He also stated that he had not breached the agreement.
In a conversation with Mathrubhumi, Nahas said, “After the success of RDX, I received a sum of money that was promised to me for the success of the film. The summons mentions an advance of Rs 40 lakh and there are allegations of defamation against the producer. Which director here is getting an advance of Rs 40 lakh? I have not defamed the producer either.”
RDX director also said that he and Sophia Paul were in talks to team up for their second project. However, he mentioned that they had not signed a contract yet and were waiting for 10 months for the producer to return. “I informed them that I was considering other options and now they are trying to stop my current project,” Nahas explained.
RDX stars Shane Nigam, Antony Varghese and Neeraj Madhav in the lead roles while Lal, Babu Antony, Mahima Nambiar, Aima Rosmy Sebastian and Maala Parvathi play supporting roles. In 2023, the film became the third highest-grossing Malayalam movie of the year.
