Randeep Hooda has expressed his deep shock and outrage over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Taking to Instagram on Friday night, Randeep, who comes from a family of doctors, shared how the case left him ‘speechless’ and sent ‘chills down his spine’. His post follows condemnations from other celebrities, including Alia Bhatt, Hrithik Roshan, Twinkle Khanna, Karan Johar, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Kareena Kapoor among others.
Randeep, demanding strict punishment for the crime, in his post, wrote, “Been speechless and distraught about the horror that seems to repeat itself in our society… coming from a family of doctors and my sister also being one just sends chills down my spine. Enough is Enough! Medical professionals need to be protected no doubt… but the predators don’t see profession in seems… it has to be a societal change not restricted to people who understand the language I write in and that’ll take time… the first and immediate step could be swift and severe punishment given out… that punishment should be covered and propagated by the media/social media as much as the tragic incident itself if not more.”
Adding that he stands with the family in their demand for justice, he wrote, “Heinous crimes deserve even more heinous punishment. At this trying hour I stand with family and the medical fraternity for justice and my heart goes out to the girl’s family. Om Shanti!”
Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan, too, demanded ‘harsh’ punishment for the accused. On Thursday night, the ‘Fighter’ actor took to his X (formerly known as Twitter) handle and penned down a long note demanding justice. He mentioned that such incidents must stop and added that it can only be done by giving strict punishments to the accused.
“Yes we need to evolve into a society where we ALL feel equally safe. But that is going to take decades. It’s going to hopefully happen with sensitizing and empowering our sons and daughters. The next generations will be better. We will get there. Eventually. But what in the interim? Right now justice would be to put a hard stop to such atrocities. And the only way to do that is a punishment so harsh that it scares the living daylights out of such perpetrators. That’s what we need. Perhaps?” Hrithik wrote.
