Padmavati Row: Decision on Film Will Be Taken After Censor Board Clearance, Says Haryana CM
Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar on Wednesday said that they'll arrive at a decision on Sanjay Leela Bhansali's only after censor board clears the film.

Amid the ongoing uproar over Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati, Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar on Wednesday said that the state government will arrive at a decision on the film only after censor board clears it. During the cabinet meeting, Khattar said, "There's been no clearance from censor board yet so we will decide after that." He added, "There's no question of hurting any particular caste."

The film starring Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Sultan Alauddin Khilji was earlier scheduled to release on December 1 but the makers voluntarily deferred the film's release date. Viacom18 Motion Pictures, the studio behind Padmavati, announced in a statement that they were voluntarily deferring the release of the film out of "respect and regard for the law of the land" including the Central Board of Film Certification on Sunday.

They said a new release date will be announced once the "requisite clearances" are in place.

Meanwhile, booked BJP leader Suraj Pal Amu on Tuesday said he would not allow anyone to watch Padmavati, claiming that the heroic character of 'Rani Padmavati' has been shown in a bad light in the period drama. "I do not want to see the movie and I will not let anybody else watch it. If you call it 'gundagardi' (hooliganism), it does not affect me," he told reporters at a press conference.
