Produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu, the film garnered positive reviews after its release in theatres.

Kandukondain Kandukondain was one of the popular Tamil films in 2000. It was directed by Rajiv Menon. The film had an ensemble cast of Mammootty, Ajith Kumar, Tabu and Aishwarya Rai in the lead roles. It was based on Jane Austen’s 1811 novel, Sense and Sensibility. The music of the film was composed by AR Rahman, while the cinematography was handled by Ravi K Chandran. Produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu, the film garnered positive reviews after its release in theatres. The makers also released the subtitled version worldwide. It won a Nation Film Award for soundtrack and two Filmfare Awards South. The performance of the lead cast, especially Mammootty and Ajith Kumar was appreciated by the critics and audiences. Do you know that Ajith Kumar was not the first choice for the role of Manohar in the film?

The first choice for the role of Manohar was none other than the actor Prashanth. He was one of the top Tamil stars during the 90s. He is the son of the actor-director Thiagarajan. He began his acting career at the age of 17. He appeared in the Tamil film Vaigasi Poranthachu. He starred in many hit films like Jeans, Jodi, Good Luck, Chocolate, Shock, Star and Winner. Due to this, Rajiv Menon approached Prashanth to appear in the film in place of Ajith Kumar; but Prashanth demanded to be paired opposite Aishwarya Rai rather than Tabu. Rajiv Menon did not want to switch the female lead actors and decided not to cast Prashanth. In January 1999, Menon met and narrated the script of Kandukondain Kandukondain to Ajith Kumar, who had been recovering from back surgery; Ajith Kumar agreed to portray the struggling film director character.

After a downfall with a series of unsuccessful films in a row, Prashanth took a break in 2019. The actor made a return with the film Andhagan this year. It was the remake of the Bollywood film Andhadhun. It was directed by Thiagrajan. He will be next seen in the film The Greatest Of All Time (GOAT).
