My Name Is Loh Kiwan Actor Song Joong-ki Has This To Say On Mixed Reviews

Korean actor Song Joong-ki’s latest film My Name Is Loh Kiwan recently premiered on Netflix. Having already hit the streaming giant on March 1, the film opened to mixed reactions with many calling it “unreliable” and also sharing confusion about the love angle. Song Joong-ki who takes on the lead role as the young Loh Kiwan is also aware of the not-so-savoury reviews that the films have been getting recently opened up about the same.

In a recent interview given on 6 March, the actor while mentioning that he completely understands the mixed reaction to the romantic aspect of the film further revealed that he initially rejected the role for this particular reason.

“However, after a while, even I was able to relate to the work and enter its story, despite my shortcomings. A movie is not a disposable cup that you throw away after watching it once. Even if you don’t find it interesting and can’t relate to it now, you may change your mind again as time goes by. I hope that’s the case, and I hope viewers look kindly on the movie. Of course, if opinions don’t change even after time has passed, that’s something I can’t control. It’s not something I can force,” he said as reported by Soompi.

Song Joong-ki while speaking about the harsh reviews that section of the audience has given to My Name is Loh Kiwan added, “I would like to hear other opinions whether it is good or bad. If I don’t hear them, I can’t learn. It’s natural to receive a variety of reviews I accept them without any regret.”

The actor also spoke about his experience while working on the film and shared it wasn’t an easy production to work. From overseas shooting locations to characters from various cultural backgrounds and a debutant director, the actor explained that completing the film itself feels like a success.

The film My Name is Loh Kiwan is based on a novel named I Met Loh Kiwan by Cho Hae Jin. Written and directed by Kim Hee Jin, it tells the story of a North Korean defector who runs who flees from China to Belgium in order to start a new life. While struggling to survive in Belgium as a refuge, he happens to meet a woman and falls in love with her.
