Liam Payne passed away on Wednesday, October 16. He fell off the balcony of his hotel room in Argentina, leading to his tragic death. The former One Direction star has a seven-year-old son, named Bear, with ex-partner Cheryl. The singer had kept Bear away from the spotlight but earlier this year, he made a rare comment about him. On his 31st birthday, the singer had said that Bear looked like him.
In a video he shared on Instagram, Liam said, “I didn’t get any dad socks yet though. I’m going to speak to my son in a little bit which I’m really excited about. Bless him. He’s getting so big now.” He then added, “He’s a big boy and he looks like a mini me. As if we needed any more me in the world.”
Liam began dating Cheryl in 2016 after she divorced from her ex-husband Jean Fernandez-Versini. The couple dated for a bit before they welcomed their son in 2017. The couple met on the sets of X Factor, when he was a contestant while Cheryl was a judge.
In 2018, Liam Payne told People magazine that he wanted to be a young father. “I always wanted to be a young dad,” he said in 2018. “But I didn’t really expect that I’d ever be in this place,” he added.
“I look at him, like, ‘Where’s my little baby gone already?’ He’s walking around the house, pretending his teddy’s a phone. He’s awesome. And a lot of fun. I love spending time with him.”
Liam rose to fame after he auditioned for The X Factor in 2008, where he was eliminated but returned in 2010, ultimately being placed into a group with four other talented young men: Niall, Harry, Louis, and Zayn. Together, they formed One Direction, which went on to achieve unprecedented success and captured the hearts of millions worldwide. They went on a hiatus in January 2016.
