Kangana Ranaut Remembers The Late Satish Kaushik At Emergency Trailer Launch: 'Iss Tarah Se Woh Gaye...'
At the trailer launch of Emergency in Mumbai, Kangana Ranaut spoke fondly of the late Satish Kaushik and observed silence in his honour.

Actor Satish Kaushik, aged 66, passed away in March 2023 after a heart attack. Kaushik, beloved for his comic roles, will appear on the big screen one last time in Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency, where he played the late Defence Minister Jagjivan Ram during India’s 1975-76 Emergency period. At the trailer launch of the film in Mumbai, Kangana spoke fondly of the actor and observed silence in his honour.

Speaking of the late actor, Kangana said on stage, “Aaj woh hamare beech mein nahi hain, lekin jab koi insaan bahut sachche man ka hota hai, jab koi insaan bahut acche aur nek hote hain, to wo jaate waqt bhi kisi ko kasht deke nahi jaate hain. Aise hi hamare bahut aadarniya Satish ji. Unhone apna saara kaam khatam kiya, humse baatein ki, dubbing bhi poori ki. Iss tarah se woh gaye ki hume laga jaise unhone jaan-bujhkar hume soch-samajh ke alvida kaha. Unke samman mein, we will observe silence for sometime (Today, he is no longer among us, but when a person is truly sincere, when someone is very good-hearted and noble, they don’t leave this world causing pain to others. Such was our very respected Satish Ji. He completed all his work, spoke with us, even finished his dubbing. He left in such a way that it felt like he deliberately and thoughtfully said goodbye to us”).

“Presenting the powerhouse of talent Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram in Emergency, popularly known as Babuji, he was one of the most revered politicians in the Indian political history,” Kangana had written at the time, sharing the first look of the film. Satish had also shared the poster of his look from the film and written, “Honoured to essay the role of Jagjivan Ram also known as Babuji, the most compassionate and the crusader of social justice in Kangana Ranaut directorial Emergency.” The filming wrapped earlier this year.

Emergency is a political drama revolving around former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her life. Kangana plays the role of the late politician, and also marks her solo directorial debut. The film also stars Shreyas Talpade as former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Mahima Chaudhry as cultural activist and Indira Gandhi’s confidante Pupul Jayakar and Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.
