'No Stories, Please': Christopher Nolan On Meeting Schoolmate At Oscars Press Room
During the award ceremony, Christopher Nolan came across a reporter who claimed to have attended school with the director.

Hollywood’s star filmmaker Christopher Nolan is currently basking in Oscar glory for his last release, Oppenheimer. His film dominated the 96th Academy Awards, with the celebrated director taking home two Oscars. In total, the Universal film bagged as many as seven Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and trophies for actor Cillian Murphy and supporting actor Robert Downey Jr. During the award ceremony, Christopher Nolan came across a reporter who claimed to have attended school with the director.

Identified as Alison Boshoff from Daily mail, the woman congratulated Nolan on Oppenheimer’s success at the 2024 Academy Awards. “Hi Chris, congratulations. It’s Alison Boshoff from the Daily Mail here. We were at school together,” the reporter could be heard saying in a video shared by Variety.

A seemingly surprised Nolan asked the reporter not to share any story from school. Delving into their school days, the woman reminded him of a particular teacher – ‘Mr. Turnbull’. To which, the filmmaker humourously added that it wasn’t what he expected to talk about at the Oscars night. “Wow! That’s not what I was expecting to talk about in his moment,” Nolan said.

When asked how he planned to celebrate his achievement, the Oscar-winning director revealed that he would ‘hit the Governor’s Ball up’ before seeing his kids to have ‘a little celebration with the family’.

Social media users reacted to the video with a user saying, “Really enjoyable conversation, you never know who you might encounter around the corner.” Another person noted, “This is such a beautiful moment. The way he, Cillian and Emma all thanked the production crew was 10/10.” One of the commenters also mentioned, “Hold on, this is pretty surreal. Imagine making it to the peak of your dreams, in this case achieving an Oscar, to THEN run into someone from a time when your dreams were literally just dreams. But who else but Nolan would have a full circle moment like this.”

The much-awaited Oscars 2024 was held last Sunday, March 10 at Hollywood’s iconic Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, US. The grand affair was hosted by the hilarious Jimmy Kimmel for the fourth time. Oppenheimer won Oscars in seven categories namely Best Original Score, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Film, Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

Helmed by Nolan, Oppenheimer portrays the life of atomic bomb creator Robert J. Oppenheimer. The iconic flick, made on a budget of $100 million, hit theatres on July 21, 2023.
