The Indian Express shared a throwback interview of Juhi Chawla in which she made this shocking revelation. The actress mentioned that she was selected for the role but then she signed Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and the rest is history. Juhi was quoted saying, ““I had met BR Chopra saab and he was such a well-mannered, learned man, who treated me with respect. He took my screen test for Draupadi’s role in Mahabharat and actually even selected me for that! Then, when Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was signed, he told me, ‘Don’t do it (my show). TV rehne do, if your film is getting made, work there.”
She further adds, “Because even I was confused, as to what to do, I didn’t even have that knowledge back then on what was the right choice. So, he was the one who showed me the direction.”
In 1988, Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla made debut with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. The movie was a modern-day rendition of Romeo and Juliet, which revolves around youngsters from two feuding families falling in love with each other. Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak achieved many milestones. Aamir Khan’s cousin and filmmaker Mansoor Khan directed the film. All six songs of the film were chartbusters, and about 10 million cassettes of the album were sold.

The show is considered a landmark Indian television series that aired from 1988 to 1990.
