James Gunn Reacts To Leaked Superman Set Photos: 'Fully Expected'
Images from James Gunn's Superman are being widely shared on social media platforms.

Director James Gunn’s Superman reboot is the talk of the town as it is the first film in the new DC Universe. Although the David Corenswet-starring film won’t be released in theatres for another year, we have already seen tidbits of the legendary superhero. After pictures from the set leaked online, fans got their first unofficial looks at Superman, Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific, Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. Notably, in May, the director released an official on-set shot, revealing the first glimpse of Corenswet’s Superman.

It should come as no surprise that a daylight location shot couldn’t be completely hidden, even with the best attempts to disguise the costumed players with black hoods and umbrellas.

Responding to a fan’s inquiry on threads on the leaked Superman set photographs that have been making the rounds on the internet, Gunn commented, “Fully expected.”

When asked if there were any spoilers in any of the set images, Gunn said, “Not even a little. I’d never shoot a big spoiler outside in the middle of the city.”

In fact, the outfit is far more vibrant and colourful than Zack Snyder’s rendition of the Kryptonian, drawing inspiration from a variety of Superman comics, such as the B-52 lineup and 1996’s Superman: Kingdom Come.

The Superman set images made it evident that something terrible had occurred in Metropolis, as seen by the extensive damage, which indicated that the city was under attack. As per Screen Rant, Gunn previously said that the film’s primary antagonist is Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor; but, because the actor hasn’t been seen on the Superman set, another enemy might be responsible for the mayhem.

The presence of extras playing firefighters and soldiers has also been documented in production set images. The army is getting engaged in an attempt to defend the Metropolis from whatever menace is causing significant harm.

According to an official description issued back when the film was still called Superman: Legacy, the Superman reboot is not an origin story. It depicts the narrative of Superman’s struggle to reconcile his Kryptonian background with his mortal growing up as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas.

“He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
