Is The Idea of You Based On Harry Styles? Here's What We Know

The trailer of director Michael Showalter’s upcoming film The Idea Of You has sparked excitement among movie enthusiasts. Unveiled on March 6, it has also captivated fans of English singer Harry Styles. The masses have been claiming that the trailer, starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine in the lead, bears a special resemblance to Harry Styles’ life. The film is a screen adaptation of writer Robin Lee’s 2017 book of the same title. Although speculations are rife about the similarities, Nicholas Galitzine has revealed that despite his character being inspired by Harry Styles, it is not exactly an imitation of the singer.

During an interaction with Buzzfeed UK, the host highlighted to Nicholas Galitzine that the people were “getting really excited about The Idea Of You and the speculation that the character is based off Harry Styles." In his response, the Purple Hearts actor revealed that the makers “tried to create a character that felt akin to Harry in the sense that he is a younger man dating older women", hinting at Harry’s previous romantic relationships. Nicholas added that it was “important to create someone who felt new and original and not a shoddy impersonation" of the As It Was singer. His words were a clear indication that The Idea Of You was not a biopic of Harry, but was inspired by some aspects of his life.

Nicholas Galitzine also heaped praise on his co-star Anne Hathaway, calling her “one of the most talented people" he ever worked with. Lauding “her ability to access emotions," Nicholas hoped that the audience would love their chemistry. “I can’t wait for people to see it," he admitted.

The Idea Of You revolves around the story of Solene (Anne Hathaway) who after taking her daughter to the Coachella Music Festival falls head over heels in love with international pop icon Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), paving the way for a whirlwind romance. The trailer and the first look led many fans to believe that the film centred around Harry Styles’ days spent in his former pop band One Direction. The Idea Of You is slated to premiere on Prime Video on May 2.
