Harvey Weinstein Hospitalised After Contracting COVID-19, Double Pneumonia
Weinstein will now face a rape retrial after his 23-year sentence was overturned earlier this year.

In an unexpected turn of events, Harvey Weinstein has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and double pneumonia, prompting authorities to transfer him from jail to a hospital for treatment. According to an AP report, Weinstein was taken to the Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward to receive treatment for a “myriad” of health issues that continue to affect him regularly. He is already struggling with underlying conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, and fluid in the heart and lungs, among others, confirmed his prison consultant Craig Rothfeld.

On top of it, he recently tested positive for COVID-19 and contracted double pneumonia. “We continue to express our gratitude to the officers, doctors, and nurses at DOCS, CHS, and NYC H+H who saw to it that Mr. Weinstein was immediately transferred to the Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward and will continue working hand in hand with them to ensure Mr. Weinstein receives proper medical treatment,” a statement read.

This is not the first time that Weinstein has been rushed to Bellevue after being brought to NYC for the rape trials against him. Earlier, he was hospitalised in April 2024 for undergoing a series of tests, as he needed a lot of physical help. “He’s somewhat of a train wreck health-wise,” Weinstein’s lawyer Arthur Aidala said in a statement.

Developments In Harvey Weinstein’s Case

In the meantime, the developments come weeks after a Manhattan judge set a tentative start date for the rape retrial for November 12, further noting that he is also open to an earlier date. The 72-year-old disgraced film producer was found guilty of rape and sexual assault in 2020 and was serving a 23-year jail sentence. However, the term was overturned earlier this year.

Despite that, Weinstein remained in prison for conviction in a rape case in Los Angeles in 2022. He was accused of three counts of sexual assault against Jane Doe No. 1, leading to a 16-year prison sentence.

In the original New York case, Weinstein was found guilty on two charges, including criminal sexual assault and rape. Amid a series of serious accusations, the former Hollywood producer continues to deny it all. Once a very influential figure in Hollywood, Weinstein is credited with building an empire from scratch, including both Miramax Films and The Weinstein Company.
