The makers of Harold and the Purple Crayon have unveiled the release date of the upcoming film in India. Directed by Carlos Saldanha, the family comedy is geared up to hit the big screens on August 23. The makers, on Sunday, shared the news on Instagram. The film will be released on August 23. Harold and the Purple Crayon features Shazam! star Zachary Levi in the lead. The live-action movie, previously scheduled to release on Independence Day, is based on a 1955 children’s book of the same title by Crockett Johnson. It revolves around Harold who possesses the power to make anything come to life simply by drawing it on a special book.
Announcing the release date of Harold and the Purple Crayon on Instagram, Sony Pictures Entertainment wrote, “Don’t stop believing. See Harold and the Purple Crayon exclusively in cinemas on August 23.” Along with the post, the makers also dropped the trailer of the film. The video began with an animated representation of Harold (Zachary Levi) drawing all sorts of images with a purple crayon. For assistance, he has two animal friends — a moose (Lil Rel Howery) and a porcupine (Tanya Reynolds). However, things take an uncertain turn when Harold draws a “Real World” door and gets transported to Earth. His furry pals accompany him too. Hence, starts an endless series of adventures promising the audience several twists and turns.

Movie enthusiasts were quick to react to Harold and the Purple Crayon’s release date announcement. One user drew the film’s resemblance to the popular children’s show Shaka Laka Boom Boom. “Is that Chuck?” a person wanted to know. “I’m getting Shazam mixed with green lantern vibes, only purple lol,” read another comment. “This looks AMAZING!!!! Must see!” wrote an excited individual. Others displayed their eagerness by dropping red heart emojis.
Harold and the Purple Crayon also stars Benjamin Bottani, Zooey Deschanel, Jemaine Clement, Pete Gardner, Camille Guaty, Ravi Patel, Zele Avradopoulos, Vartan, Catherine Davis, and Alfred Molina in crucial roles. The film was released on August 2 in the US.
Previously, HBO produced a 13-episode TV series based on Harold and the Purple Crayon’s book in 2001.
