Bollywood actor Govinda was reportedly the first choice of Biwi No. 1, a report has claimed. Biwi No. 1 completed 25 years on Wednesday, May 29. The film starred Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor and Sushmita Sen in the lead while Anil Kapoor played a pivotal role. A report claimed that not Salman but Govinda was the first choice for the David Dhawan film. However, Govinda did not want to work with Sush. The film eventually landed in Salman’s kitty.
A DNA report claimed David Dhawan had envisioned Govinda in the character of a cheating husband. While Govinda allegedly agreed, it is claimed that he did not want to star opposite Sushmita Sen. As reported by The Indian Express as well, Govinda allegedly insisted Sushmita be removed from the film. However, the makers refused.
Eventually, Govinda left the project. He allegedly returned the signing amount and stated that he had already done two films in which he played a cheating husband and didn’t want to do another similar character. Interestinglu, Govinda and Sushmita worked together in Kyo Kii… Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta (2001). News18 couldn’t verify these claims at the time of reporting.
Meanwhile, Sushmita and Salman’s chemistry set the screen on fire. Sushmita recently revealed that her performance continues to be talked about among fans. So much so that her fans request her to call them, ‘Haye mera bachcha,’ like she did in the film. “Haye mera bachcha wasn’t in the script. I thought the scene was over and I just hugged Salman, saying ‘haye mera bachcha.’ The camera was still rolling, and David kept it! So, it’s actually my own lingo,” she told The Indian Express.
It is also claimed that Karisma wasn’t the first choice for the role of the ‘Biwi’. Apparently, Heeramandi star Manisha Koirala was the first choice for the role. However, she passed on the role. It is also claimed that Anil’s role was originally going to be offered to Sanjay Dutt.
