Govinda, David Dhawan REPLACED Saroj Khan With Ganesh Acharya To Choreograph Husn Hai Suhana: 'They Found...'
Ganesh Acharya shared how he replaced the legendary Saroj Khan in the Coolie No. 1 for the song Husn Hai Suhana, starring Govinda and Karisma Kapoor.

Govinda and David Dhawan, known for their iconic 90s collaborations, were famous for both their comedic flair and Govinda’s dance moves. The man behind those moves was the talented choreographer Ganesh Acharya, who worked on a whopping 150 films with the star. In a recent episode of Friday Talkies, Ganesh Acharya shared how he replaced the legendary Saroj Khan in the 1995 hit Coolie No. 1 for the song “Husn Hai Suhana,” featuring Govinda and Karisma Kapoor. Despite the dominance of choreographers like Khan and Chinni Prakash, Govinda and Dhawan were eager to give Acharya a chance to shine.

“Producer Ramesh Taurani chahte the ki itna bada hit gaana woh karein. Govinda aur David Dhawan chahte the ki ye gaana main karun. (Producer Ramesh Taurani wanted Saroj ji to do such a big hit track. Govinda and David Dhawan wanted me to do this song),” the choreographer said.

Ganesh Acharya also revealed that whenever producer Ramesh Taurani scheduled dates with Saroj Khan, Govinda and David Dhawan would claim unavailability. He recalled, “Then the film was about to be released, and both of them found out when Saroj and Chinni Prakash would be busy. They found four dates to shoot where these two would be unavailable. Ramesh ji asked who would shoot the song since Saroj and Chinni were busy, they then brought up my name and said, ‘Ganesh is free, he will do it.’”

Ganesh Acharya shared how his sister encouraged him to work with Govinda, believing his dance style would suit the star. He spent six months waiting outside Govinda’s building when the actor was at the height of his fame. Eventually, Govinda asked Ganesh Acharya to choreograph a song for the 1994 film Prem Shakti. Though given only two days and just one hour of the actor’s time each day, Acharya finished the choreography in two hours, impressing Govinda.

Ganesh Acharya is the man who has given us some of the best hook steps in Bollywood. Ganesh has choreographed various groovy tracks like Tattad Tattad, Chikni Chameli, and many more. From Govinda and Varun Dhawan to Madhuri Dixit and Nora Fatehi, he has made groove to his steps on the dancing tracks. Bollywood actors like Hrithik Roshan, Govinda, Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt, among others, have worked with him. Ganesh Acharya has also acted in 25 films and directed five features.
