For the movie adaptation of the comic by the same name, Universal has signed up Michelle MacLaren, who has previously directed TV shows such as 'Game of Thrones', 'The Walking Dead', 'Breaking Bad', 'Better Call Saul', 'Westworld' and, more recently, 'The Deuce'.

The big-screen adaptation of the comic book will be helmed by top-flight TV director Michelle MacLaren. For her move into movies, the American director has been signed up to direct Cowboy Ninja Viking, starring Chris Pratt, who has been on board the project since 2015.

Cowboy Ninja Viking, the 2009 comic book by A. J. Lieberman and Riley Rossmo, follows Duncan, a man who suffers from multiple personality disorder who becomes a super-soldier with the killer attributes of a cowboy, a ninja and a Viking as part of a government program to combat terrorism. However, Duncan escapes from the program and goes on a mission to find and kill its creator.

For the movie adaptation, Universal has signed up Michelle MacLaren, who has previously directed prestigious TV shows such as Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Westworld and, more recently, The Deuce. Warner had initially brought in Michelle MacLaren to direct its Wonder Woman movie. However, due to artistic differences, the director preferred to step away from the project and was replaced by Patty Jenkins.

Cowboy Ninja Viking is billed as her first big-screen movie. It's due to start filming at the end of the year with release slated for June 2019. MacLaren is also due to direct The Nightingale, based on the book of the same name by Kristin Hannah. This project is likely to take second place in the director's schedule.

Chris Pratt stars in two major productions heading to theaters this year. He reprises his role as Star-Lord (from the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' franchise) in Avengers: Infinity War, out in April. Two months later, he returns to the big screen as raptor trainer Owen Grady in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
