In a big development in the Renuka Swamy murder case, it has now been reported that Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa had borrowed Rs 40 lakh to destroy evidence. As reported by India Today, Darshan recently shared his statement with the Karnataka police when he confessed that he had borrowed Rs 40 lakh from one of his friends to pay off other accused to destroy evidence. Besides this, it has also been reported that Darshan had already paid Rs 30 lakh to others to surrender.
This comes days after police sources also revealed that the actor allegedly asked three men to take the blame for the crime in exchange for cash. NDTV reported that Darshan reportedly offered Rs 15 lakh to three men and asked them to take blame for Renuka Swamy’s murder.
Darshan is being probed in connection to the Renuka Swamy murder case. Swamy was found dead in Bengaluru on June 8, 2024. He used to reportedly work at an Apollo Pharmacy branch in Chitradurga. It has been alleged that Renuka used to send vulgar messages to Kannada actress Pavithra Gowad, a friend of Darshan. Angry about this, Renuka Swamy was murdered and his dead body was allegedly thrown in a canal at Kamaksshipalya, Bengaluru in front of Darshan.
Previously, Karnataka police officials also claimed that Darshan and his aides beat Renuka Swamy with sticks and threw him against the wall which led to his death. “It was Pavithra who instigated Darshan to punish Renukaswamy. Accordingly, the plan was hatched,” sources claimed.
Reportedly, eight of the accused have implicated Darshan, claiming his presence during Renuka Swamy’s assault. The Kannada actor was arrested on June 11.
Several Kannada actors have come out in support of Darshan, mentioning that they have full faith in the judiciary and hoping that the truth to come out soon. Recently, actress Rachita Ram also urged the media to be “unbiased and transparent” while talking about the probe.
“I pray for the departed soul, Renukaswamy. I hope his family gains the strength to bear the loss. I hope justice will be delivered in this murder case. Darshan introduced me to the cinema industry. He is like my mentor. I cannot believe that the person who used to correct my mistakes and guide me was involved in the case. I believe that the police will bring out the truth. Hope the media will remain unbiased and transparent in their reports,” her statement read.
