The trailer of Sudhir Mishra's Daas Dev was unveiled on Thursday. The film follows a path contrary to the plot of the classic novel of Devdas but seems to be quite different from two Bollywood adaptations of the tale- Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas and Anurag Kashyap's Dev D. The film brings to fore the power play dynamics, politics and entwines the love story in a way that it's more like love in the times of politics and power ambitions. The trailer depicts a reverse tale of Sarat Chandra Chatterjee’s Devdas where Dev ultimately breaks free from his addictions and dynastic ambitions of his family, Paro does not stay trapped behind a big gate inside her husband's house and Chandni's character has many shades to her this time.
"Like I said earlier, we are in the times of bullshit and that’s where love stands today. Trailers of films are the first impressions for the audiences to judge whether they want to watch the film or not. In Daas Dev’s trailer, my endeavour was to make it very clear that if anyone is looking to come for some mush or with due respect to Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s masterpiece Devdas, then this film is not for you my friend," said the filmmaker in a statement.
Set against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh, the film stars Rahul Bhat as Dev, Richa Chadha as Paro and Aditi Rao Hydari as Chandni. Mukkabaaz fame actor Vineet Kumar Singh, Saurabh Shukla, and Dalip Tahil also play key roles.
The film is slated to release on March 23.
