It’s another Guinness World Record for Deadpool & Wolverine! While fans were all prepared to see their beloved Avengers back for one last time, never in a million years did anyone think that Chris Evans would return as Human Torch and not Captain America. Evans made a surprise appearance alongside other cameo stars at the Comic-Con event, confirming his role as Johnny Storm, the character that he played in the Fantastic Four films. With his latest appearance, the actor has created a Guinness world record for the most feature film appearances as a Marvel superhero.

While the most feature film appearances stand at 11, it is now helmed by Evans both as Captain America and the Human Torch. The 43-year-old’s first credited Marvel appearance came as Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four (2004), which he reprised in the 2007 sequel.
Later, he took on the memorable role of Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, in a series of films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His last appearance came in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, seemingly bringing an end to Evans’ run as Cap. He passed on the shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), setting the stage for the Brave New World. However, it remains uncertain whether he is dead or has officially retired.
Why Did Chris Evans Return As Human Torch?
In his latest conversation with Entertainment Weekly, the actor opened up about why he chose to play Human Torch for Deadpool & Wolverine. Recalling that it was Ryan Reynolds who personally called him up for the role, Evans said, “I was so excited. Ryan’s a buddy. He just shot me a text saying, ‘Listen, that might be a long shot, but would you have any interest in reprising something from 20 years ago?’ I said, ‘Oh my God! Of course.”

He also shared that Reynolds might be the only person for whom he would have done it, stating that the Deadpool star has the “Midas touch.”
“His self-awareness makes him almost invincible. He makes the joke before the audience gets a chance to make the joke, so if you’re going to revisit a character and you have to find a way to make it work, Ryan’s humor makes just about everything work, so you feel an automatic sense of safety,” he continued.
Deadpool & Wolverine is currently in theatres.
