Pag Ghunghroo: This catchy number from the 1982 release ‘Namak Halaal’ was picturised on none other than Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan. Lahiri’s lively tune was in perfect synch with Big B’s animated onscreen antics and went along way in creating a mesmerizing spectacle. Interestingly, ‘Pag Ghunghroo’ was crooned by Kishore Kumar.
I am a Disco Dancer: Picturised on Mithun Chakraborty, ‘I am a Disco Dancer’ introduced Indian movie buffs to peppy disco numbers and established Lahiri as a household name. The song proved to be a rage among kids and adults alike.
Mumbai se Aaya Mera Dost: Composed and crooned by Bappi Lahiri himself, this enjoyable song from the 1977 release ‘Aap Ki Khatir’ has acquired a cult status over the years. Interestingly, a modified version of ‘Mumbai se Aaya Mera Dost’ was used in the Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Chandini Chowk to China’.
Hari Om Hari: Yet another peppy composition from ‘Bappi Lahiri, ‘Hari Om Hari’ created waves among movie buffs thanks to Usha Uthup’s powerful vocals as well as its foot tapping beats. It featured on the soundtrack of the 1980 release ‘Pyaara Dushman’.
Yaar Bina: The heartwarming number from the Anil Kapoor starrer ‘Saaheb’ bears testimony to Lahiri’s versatility as a singer and composer.
Tension: Boasting of some quirky yet meaningful lyrics, ‘Tension’ saw Bappi Lahiri do playback singing for none other than Tamil superstar Rajinikanth. The song was used in the KC Bokadia-directed Hindi film ‘Tyagi’.
Gutur Gutur: After ruling the film industry in the 1980’s, Lahiri vanished from the scene in the early 1990’s. However, during this challenging phase, he managed to give his fans a reason to celebrate. His song ‘Gutur Gutur’ from ‘Dalaal’ grabbed eyeballs courtesy some truly suggestive lyrics.
Papa Rita: This catchy song from the Telugu action-drama ‘Gang Leader’ became extremely popular in Andhra Pradesh and helped ‘Bappi Da’ bag a Filmfare award.
Oo La La: The raunchy ‘Oo La La’ saw Bappi Lahiri add new life to Naseeruddin Shah and Vidya Balan’s onscreen romance in ‘The Dirty Picture’. Needless to say, the track proved to be a massive success courtesy its steamy picturisation and sensuous lyrics.
Yaad Aa Raha Hain: Yet another gem of a song from ‘Disco Dancer’, ‘Yaad Aa Raha Hain’ touched upon heart break and solitude. It was composed and sung by Lahiri himself.
