In the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 16, Amitabh Bachchan shared a personal story that delighted the audience. While discussing inter-caste relationships with contestant Kriti, Big B revealed that he considers himself “half-Sardar” due to his Sikh roots. His mother, Teji Bachchan, came from a Sikh family, and his maternal aunts affectionately called him “Amitabh Singh.”
Reflecting on his upbringing, Bachchan said, “I find it a little awkward to call it inter-caste. My father was from Uttar Pradesh, and my mother was from a Sikh family. I believe I am half-Sardar.” He fondly recalled how his aunts from Punjab adored him, saying, “When I was born, my masis would say, ‘Kinna sona putar hai, sadda Amitabh Singh (What a beautiful son, our Amitabh Singh).’”
Kriti, the contestant from Sukrit, Uttar Pradesh, also shared her personal journey during the episode. She spoke about how her father dreamt of participating in KBC, but was unable to. Despite losing his memory later in life, he continued answering KBC questions from home, which moved Kriti. Sitting on the hot seat, she fulfilled her father’s dream and expressed her wish for him to meet Amitabh Bachchan.
As Kriti excelled at answering a mathematical question, Amitabh Bachchan praised her skills. She admitted that she wasn’t great at math during her school days and would just scrape by with 40 marks. However, her work experience in banking improved her abilities. In response, Big B humorously revealed his own struggles with math, confessing that he had scored only 42 marks.
The episode also had light-hearted moments. Kriti, not fond of jewellery, asked if Amitabh gifts his wife, Jaya Bachchan, any jewellery. With a smile, Amitabh responded, “You’ve asked me quite a personal question, but yes, I do gift her. Hope no one from the Income Tax department is watching this!”
KBC 16 airs on Sony TV from Monday to Friday at 9 pm and is also available for streaming on SonyLIV.
