Akshay Kumar-starrer PadMan has got a new release date. The R Balki film, which was originally set to arrive in cinemas on Republic Day, was later preponed by a day, i.e, January 25 to avoid a clash with Sidharth Malhotra's Aiyaary.
However, this time Akshay decided to shift the film's release date at the request of filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, whose Padmaavat has faced a lot of trouble from the hands of protestors and fringe elements.
"It is essential for them to release the film 'Padmaavat' as quickly as possible, so I agreed to move the release date of my film 'PadMan' ahead. It will now be released on February 9," Akshay confirmed the news during a press conference in Mumbai on Friday evening.
The Supreme Court on Thursday paved the way for an all-India release for Padmaavat on January 25 by staying the operation of orders banning the release of the film by the Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Haryana governments.
Meanwhile, Bhansali thanked Akshay for understanding the situation and said "I'll be grateful to him for lifetime."
"'Padmaavat' has been made after facing a lot of difficulties, we decided on release date of 25 Jan but it was with Akshay Kumar's film 'PadMan'. We then requested him to move release date of his film ahead and he agreed," Bhansali was quoted as saying by ANI.
PadMan, a biographical comedy-drama, is a fictionalised account of Tamil Nadu-based Arunachalam Muruganantham, who created affordable sanitary napkins for the women of his village.
Recently, the makers of Aiyaary also decided to push the release date of the action-thriller to February 9.
Earlier, when Akshay was asked about his reaction on the possible clash of PadMan and Bhansali's period film, he had said, "It is not about competition, it is a very big day, a big week, so all the films can come. Both the films can release on that day. Every film has the right to release whenever they (makers) want, and I am happy for them."
Also featuring, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte, PadMan will be Akshay's wife Twinkle Khanna's maiden production.
