Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya was once the highest-paid singer in the film industry till he found himself in controversies. Once again, he has found himself at the centre of controversies after he took a cryptic dig at a renowned actor couple.
In an interview with the prominent news portal Bollywood Bubble, the veteran singer said that while the husband goes to Ram Lala darshan, his wife, who is from an opposition party, sits in the parliament and makes disparaging statements.
The 65-year-old singer didn’t mention the names of the husband and wife but the users have assumed that he is targetting Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. It is because Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan did go for the Ram Lala darshan while Jaya Bachchan is known for criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party. Jaya Bachchan is from the Samajwadi Party.
This is not the only time Abhijeet has become the controversy’s favourite child. In one of his earlier posts, he attributed the murder of an Infosys techie named Swathi in Chennai to Love Jihad. Love Jihad is a theory used by some people to refer to an alleged campaign by Muslim men to convert Hindu girls under the pretext of love. Under the pretext of this term, many interfaith couples have been targeted by the people. Contrary to the misleading post by Abhijeet, Swathi (24) was murdered in broad daylight at the Nungambakkam railway station in Chennai in 2016. The killer, a 22-year-old engineering graduate called Ram Kumar, was arrested in Tirunelveli.
Besides singing and expressing his opinions on Twitter, the singer dabbles in real estate and in running a coffee retail outlet. One of his famous songs is Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaoon. He teamed up with singer Alka Yagnik for this number penned by Javed Akhtar and composed by the hit duo of Jatin-Lalit.
The Suno Na Suno Na singer is married to Sumati Bhattacharya and is blessed with two sons Dhruv and Jai.
