An old video from an event hosted by Karan Johar has resurfaced, featuring a fun moment between Aamir Khan and Twinkle Khanna from the sets of Mela, the 2000 film that turned out to be a box office disaster. In the video, Aamir can be seen confessing that acting wasn’t Twinkle’s strong suit. When Karan Johar asked Aamir if he had ever considered Twinkle to be a good actress, the superstar was stumped.

When asked again and before he could respond, Twinkle Khanna jumped in, laughing and saying, “Twinkle said, “Once he asked me, ‘What happened? Why are you not focusing on work?’ and I told him I am thinking about Akshay, he almost slapped me!” Aamir, surprised at the revelation said, “Really? I don’t think I would have reacted that way.”

The conversation took a fun turn when Karan Johar pointed out that while Twinkle might not have excelled in acting, she had a talent for something else — insulting people. Twinkle, always quick with a witty remark, didn’t miss a beat and went on to share a hilarious anecdote from the sets of Mela. She revealed how she once caught Aamir Khan crying behind a big rock because the film’s director, Dharmesh Darshan, had turned down one of his suggestions. She said, “He had gone to the director to explain his shot, but he didn’t listen. Now this is Aamir, who is very serious about his work, so he was heartbroken. I found him sitting behind a massive rock and crying!”

Known for his perfectionist streak, Aamir could only respond to Twinkle’s playful jab with a smile, saying, “Look at what she’s doing.”

Mela, released on January 7, 2000, was a major box office dud. Starring Aamir Khan and Twinkle Khanna and directed by Dharmesh Darshan, known for the hit Raja Hindustani, Mela failed to connect with audiences due to its disjointed mix of action, romance and drama.

After Mela, Twinkle Khanna, who debuted in 1995, never returned to acting, partly due to the film’s poor reception. She had once mentioned on Koffee With Karan that she had told Akshay Kumar she would only marry him if the movie flopped. Since then, she has found success as an author and often jokes about her acting career being filled with forgettable roles.
