Actress Neha Dhupia had earlier shared that she experienced postpartum weight gain during her first pregnancy with daughter, Mehr, in 2018. It was easy for her to lose the weight at that time because the world went into lockdown, and she could adopt a deficit diet at home. During her second pregnancy in 2021 with her son, Dhupia gained more than 23kg. She took her time and did not stress about it. Neha Dhupia followed a proper diet and exercise regime. The result is now finally visible. She is back to her super-fit and healthy version. As she is all set to return on the big screen with her movie Bad Newzz, she shared a heartfelt post about her weight loss journey on Instagram. Neha Dhupia writes, “Shedding those extra pounds was not just about looking a certain way but about feeling healthy, strong, and capable. The truth is there are no short cuts , there is no easy way around it , there is also no rocket science … stay consistent, work hard and show up especially on the days you don’t feel like it at all! (sic).” Towards the end of the post, she advised people to stay consistent and disciplined about their training.
According to a recent interview given by Dr Ritambhara Bhalla, Associate Director, Department of Gynecology and Cloudnine Group of Hospitals, Chandigarh, he emphasises the importance of consulting your healthcare provider before starting any weight loss plan. Rapid weight loss can be counterproductive, leading to nutrient deficiencies, muscle loss, and other health concerns. Dr Bhalla recommends a gradual approach, aiming for a weight loss of 0.5 to 1 kg per week. This allows your body to adjust, maintain muscle mass, and support overall health. He also advises focusing on whole foods like fruits, vegetables, lean protein sources, whole grains, and healthy fats and to definitely stay hydrated.
Physical activities like walking or postpartum yoga are also very beneficial for one’s health. Strength training can help build muscle, which boosts metabolism and aids in weight loss. Dr Bhalla advises the new mothers to listen to their body and avoid overexertion. Adequate rest is definitely crucial for recovery and overall health.
He puts an emphasis on mental health. He says to seek support from family, friends, or support groups for motivation and emotional well-being. Techniques like mindfulness, meditation, or stress management can also be helpful.
Another technique to lose postpartum weight is breastfeeding. Breastfeeding burns additional calories but also increases nutritional needs. A nutrient-rich diet fuels both the mother’s health and the baby’s development.
