In the Hindu religion, the month of Magh holds special significance and among its many beliefs, Magh Purnima, the full day in Magh has the most importance. The tradition of bathing and meditating on this auspicious day is very old and deeply rooted in spiritual practice. Magh Purnima is one of the 12 full moons in a year, each carrying its importance. However, this day is especially dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

It is believed that by performing rituals and worshipping Lord Vishnu on this day, devotees receive his abundant blessings. Additionally, taking baths in holy rivers, making donations and chanting mantras are considered highly auspicious. According to Pandits, performing a Havan on Magh Purnima is important. When performed correctly, it is said that Lord Vishnu blesses the devotees.

Astrologer Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal from Mudgal Astrology Centre in Pagal Baba Ashram, Deoghar, has shared the importance of Magh Purnima in the Hindu tradition. This year, Magh Purnima falls on February 24.

Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal also advised to worship both Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu on this day for good results. He also said that the person who is facing financial difficulties is advised to perform Havan using sesame seed, which is said to make Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu happy.

Special Havan

On this day performing this Havan is very important and a special method is recommended. Mixing pure cow’s ghee, honey, kheer and white sesame seed, and performing the Havan 21 times is believed to be highly auspicious. As per beliefs, Lord Vishnu is very fond of white sesame seeds and kheer and chanting the Sukta mantra on Magh Purnima is also said to be very important, as it is said to bring relief from financial problems through the grace of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi.
