In the fashion landscape, we witness new trends every day that emerge from the glitzy world of entertainment. One of the latest trends gaining traction among the stars is Method Dressing. From Zendaya’s photocall appearance in Rome to Janhvi Kapoor’s Mr. and Mrs. Mahi promotional looks, it seems that method dressing has become the go-to choice for actors.
But what exactly is this trend and why is it becoming so popular among celebrities?
About Method Dressing
Method Dressing is a fashion approach where an actor selects their outfits to represent their film’s aesthetic and thematic elements such as the props, characters and plot, and channel it into their red carpet or promotional looks. This particular concept comes from the acting technique known as Method Acting. Several actors such as Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Margot Robbie, Halle Bailey, Zendaya and Jenna Ortega have opted for this technique while promoting their projects. They blended their on-screen and off-screen personalities by dressing up exceptionally.
Recently, Janhvi Kapoor’s choice of ensembles for the promotions of her upcoming film Mr. and Mrs. Mahi has been stunning. She promoted her character “Mahima” off-screen by wearing a bunch of ensembles that showcase her deep involvement in the craft. Her red and white striped saree from the luxury designer Torani created a buzz as it features stitching of the cricket balls on the border. Then, we have another number in blue which features the cricket ground on the pallu. Apart from ethnic attires, she also donned a chic blue jumpsuit that boasted shiny trophy embellishments.

Another celebrity who nailed the trend was Zendaya. At the photocall in Rome, she promoted her latest film Challengers in which she portrays the character of Tashi Donaldson, a former tennis player turned coach. She looked stunning in a mini silver dress featuring a plunging V neckline and pleated skirt. It looked like she could simply grab a racquet and head to the courts without any need to change her attire.

A perfect example of this trend is Margot Robbie, who chose a pink co-ord set during the press tour of her film Barbie.

Last year, Alia Bhatt’s choice of ensembles while promoting Gangubai Kathiawadi and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani exemplified this trend. She aced the trend by wearing white sarees to represent her character Gangubai and chiffon sarees to embody the essence of Rani.

Bollywood actors like Ranveer Singh and Aamir Khan have also embraced this trend in the past. During the promotion of Bajirao Mastani, Ranveer embodied his character, Peshwa Bajirao. He wore a sherwani paired with a long voluminous skirt. Similarly, Aamir Khan promoted his film Ghajini by sporting the hairstyle of his character, Sanjay Singhania.
