KAKINANDA: Angry that his lover's parents rejected his marriage proposal, a youngster tried to kill a girl by slitting her throat in her house at Etimoga in Kakinada in the early hours of Friday. He also allegedly inflicted wounds on himself and both are presently undergoing treatment. Their condition is said to be out of danger.Around 5.30 a.m. M Krishnam Raju barged into the house of 18-year-old Voleti Veera Veni. He picked up a knife lying there and slashed her throat and proceeded to inflict wounds on himself.On hearing her cries, Veera Veni's mother Chandra, who was in the backyard, rushed to the room and found both of them bleeding profusely. With the help of locals, she shifted Veera Veni and Raju to the Government General Hospital (GGH). Meanwhile, Raju alleged that the girl's family had injured him. The girl's father, Voleti Gangadhar had gone out for fishing at the time of the incident. Veera Veni had completed class 10 and was staying in the house.According to police, the youngsters were in love for the last six months after which Raju's parents put forth a marriage proposal before Veera Veni's parents. Both belong to the fishermen community. However, the girl's parents rejected the proposal and even fixed her engagement with another person. Not able to digest the decision of her parents, an angry Raju decided to kill Veni.Speaking to Express, Voleti Chandra alleged that Raju is a vagabond who entered their house, slashed her daughter's throat and even stole two sovereigns of gold.Port station police registered a case against Raju under sections 307 and 309 and investigation is underway under the supervision of DSP Lakshminarayana.
