Our country is rife with skilful artists, who have a unique artistic talent in their style. Local18 reports exclusively about this young artist from West Bengal, who skillfully created an idol of Lord Jagannath using pieces of potatoes.
The artist is named Debojyoti Mohra, who is a resident of the Nepali Para, in the district of Balurghat. Debojyoti, with his impeccable hands as an artist, created an idol of Lord Jagannath with potatoes. As per the reports, he is a second-year student in the Department of Arts, at Balurghat College. According to him, he was interested in the art of sculpting since he was a child. So, he was suddenly hit with the idea to create a Lord Jagannath idol with potatoes.
He used a total of three potatoes to create the idol. After cutting the pieces appropriately, he used paint on the vegetable to give it a face. To paint more comfortably he dried the potatoes first. Furthermore, he adorned the idol with zari gold lace while he created the crown using the zari beads. The exclusive footage recorded by Local18 shows Debojyoti meticulously using colours like red, black and white to create the face.
Since his childhood, Debojyoti has honed his craft in sculpting by creating idols of gods and goddesses with clay and making different items for decoration with it. Reportedly, his handmade stuff has also been sent abroad.
The young man mentions that his family and friends are all very happy with his work and give their full support. Debojyoti revealed that the region of Balurghat and South Dinajpur district lack artists, so he took the initiative to be one of the first to do something significant and focused on sculpting. He hopes to give more time to this work in the future.
