KOTTAYAM: A one-day workshop on ‘Geospatial Technologies in Research, Development and Teaching: Harnessing Free and Open Source GIS’ will be held at at the School of Environmental Sciences(SES), Mahatma Gandhi University, on April 10 .The workshop is being organised by R Satheesh, of the Centre for Remote Sensing and GIS of the SES with the support of the ISRO, Department of Space, Government of India, under the National Natural Resource Management System (NNRMS) programme, in collaboration with Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences (SUAS), Applied Geoinformatics for Society and Environment (AGSE) and Stuttgart Active Alumni group (SAAG).The workshop will focus on the practical use of free and open source software (FOSS) for the effective implementation of the GIS.The sessions will be handled by professor Franz Joseph Behr, professor of Geomatics, University of Applied Sciences, Stuttgart Germany and Sajid Pareeth, RS/GIS specialist, International Water Management Institute (IWMI), Colombo, Sri Lanka.Practitioners and professionals of geoinformatics and other applied science and technology fields, including faculty, researchers and students from the field can participate in the workshop.Those who wish to participate should register by sending an e-mail to rsgismgu@ yahoo.co.in before Friday.The number of participants is limited to 60 and will be decided on a firstcum- first served basis.For details visit www.sesmgu.org or Phone- 94460 58120
