TIRUCHY: A woman doctor from a private hospital, who had allegedly conducted the abortion procedure on the nun who is said to have been raped by the former principal of St Joseph’s College here, surrendered in court on Thursday. She was granted conditional bail.Dr Suchitra of the KMC hospital here was one of the five accused in a case of alleged rape of nun Florence Mary (32) by Father R Rajarathinam. Florence Mary had lodged a complaint with the police accusing Rajarathinam of raping her in 2006 and 2008 and asking her not to reveal it to anyone. Thereafter, he took take her to several other places and continued raping her, it was alleged. The police registered a case which is under progress at the Tiruchy Judicial Magistrate Court I.Meanwhile, Fr Rajarathinam and co-accused - Fr Devadoss, Jose Xavier and Xavier — who were alleged to have threatened Florence Mary, approached the court and were granted condition bail. Dr Suchithra too had applied for bail earlier. On Thursday, Suchithra surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate Court I. She was granted conditional bail by judge Elengo.Meanwhile, all the accused and Florence Mary were to receive the chargesheet from the court. However, none of the accused appeared before the court and were therefore ordered to receive it on June 21. Florence Mary, who was present in the court on Thursday,received the chargesheet.
