BANGALORE: Taking sustainability and environment conservation into consideration, Wipro has come up with the ‘Earthian’ programme for college and school students. “The ‘earthian’ programme is designed to act as a catalyst for fostering excellence in sustainability, thinking and doing amongst young people. It is our first step towards a deeper engagement with children and young adults in schools and colleges,” Sachin Mulay, Head of Communications of the Wipro company, said.He said that around 40 schools and colleges from Bangalore have already come forward to express their interest in the programme.Speaking to The New Indian Express about the programme Sachin said, “Once registered, the students will have to send a write-up (about 3,000 words) on any topic related to environment- like rainwater harvesting, climate change and plastic use. The jury will be choosing the three best write-ups from the school level and three from the college level. Awards in the form of money and certificate have been instituted,” he added.He said that the award will have to be used to create a corpus for an ‘Ecology Lab’ or ‘Clean Energy Lab’. “At the school level, the lab will encourage teachers and students to conduct small scale experiments and pilot projects in different areas of the themes. At the college level, the research centre will act as a catalyst for innovative projects and research that have potential for being translated into larger scale implementations in the real world,” he said.
