BANGALORE: The biography 'Forever Forty Colonel Vasanth, AC' was written by the author Shubhashini Vasanth to present a martyr of this country as a spontaneous human, who had several sides to him including a great sense of humour. The book was released by Governor of Arunachal Pradesh General J J Singh here on Sunday.Coauthored by Veena Prasad, the first copy of the book was released by Lokayuktha Santosh Hegde, who appreciated the effort of the authors to delve into their personal lives and make the effort to capture the memories of the Colonel as seen through the eyes of his friends and colleagues. In a lighter vein he added that he will definitely read the book, but only after his retirement on August 3. Until then, he has a bigger book to write, which hopefully would be as adventurous as the episodes recounted by the authors. He said goodhumouredly that his report would come out soon but he is waiting for an auspicious time. The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh General J J Singh recounted that he was the chief of staff when Colonel achieved his martyrdom. "When my wife and I conveyed the news, she (Shubhashini Vasanth) received it with fortitude and dignity. She was at the time directing a dance drama for charity for Army Wives' association. Despite people telling her not to do it because of her grief, she went ahead and completed the project," he said.Sankey Tank road widening Lokayukta Santosh Hegde told reporters on Sunday that a complaint has been lodged against the Government for lack of transparency in the auction of trees in the Sankey Tank Bund Road for widening of the road. But, he added that the case can only be examined by the next Lokayukta as he is retiring next month. Personally, he felt that the representatives voted by the people are not good as they do not seem to keep the general good of people in mind hence, there are inadequacies in planning of cities and townships.
