Weaves, a cotton and silk spectrum, is an exhibition-cumsale of exotic ethnic wear from all across the country.Organized to promote the weavers and the ethnic varieties of every handloom weaving state of India, it provides a range of authentic fabrics in a variety of garments. Weaves has on display an array of handloom silk and cotton sarees, dress materials, kurtas, kurtis, stoles, dupattas and home furnishings and also an exquisite collection of designer wear in Indian handloom. It has a range of handlooms from almost every state of India such as the kalamkari, gadwal, uppada, dharmavaram, pochampally, venkatgiri and mangalgiri from Andhra Pradesh, the tussars of Bihar, kosa from Chhattisgarh, bandhani, kutch embroidery, patolas of Gujarat, kashida embroidered sarees, shawls and dress materials from Jammu and Kashmir. Also available are the printed silks and Mysore silk sarees of Karnataka, Chanderi and Maheshwari of Madhya Pradesh, sanganeri, bandhej, dabu, block prints and Rajasthani kotas, brocades, jamdani and jamawar of Uttar Pradesh, baluchari and kantha from West Bengal and the Tamil Nadu kanjeevaram, chettinad and coimbatore silks. As an economic activity, handlooms occupy second place only next to agriculture.Owing to the stiff competition from the power looms and imports from other countries, weavers today undergo difficult times and are unable to sustain themselves. The event is organized by Revathi Creative Communications at Sri Satya Sai Nigamagamam in Srinagar colony from October 18 to 24 from 11 am to 9pm.
