Matrimonial sites are providing BB users with apps that inform them whenever a potential spouse is in the vicinity.

Bangalore: Owning a BlackBerry and finding that someone special to spend the rest of your life with just got a whole lot easier. That is, if you are registered with online matrimonial websites. Shaadi.com-BlackBerry applications will now allow potential mates to receive real time notifications if a potential match is in the immediate vicinity.

Gourav Rakshit, business head, Shaadi.com, said, "It's a continuously innovative service. At one point we realised that users were not comfortable meeting people online and that's how the whole idea came about." He added, "The largest media now are the mobile phones and BlackBerrys, and utilising this medium, we can help BBM users come together."

Sachit Gayakwad, head of corporate communications at RIM (Research in Motion), said, "When we journeyed into providing apps, it wasn't about having a 1000 apps, but more about geography and how it can be more relevant so that people can use it on a daily basis."

People's reaction

Moksh Juneja (29), a social media professional, said, "I personally feel that Indians are tech savvy and adapt to new technology quickly. "It's something that I will definitely try for kicks. It sounds terribly cool."

Prateek Sibal (21), a merchant navy cadet, said, "It's innovative and good in a way, but I would never try it. I know a lot of people who would though and it would be easier for those who have registered on the website."

Kaustav Dey (26), a banker, said, "Personally, I don't think I would use it, but it is a very cool application. Also, I'm sure finding your mate through the BlackBerry messenger be cost friendly." "Obviously, the internet scenario has made it quite easy already," he added.
